SYNOPSIS AND DESCRIPTION
Produced with the team behind The Loneliest Whale (featuring Leonardo DiCaprio), this project provides an in-depth look at the racism that plagues the world of football. What are the roots of such a persistent and difficult-to-eradicate problem?
Famous athletes have become targets of racial abuse, both inside stadiums and on social media: insults, verbal attacks, denigration, and even threats to the safety of their families. The lack of strong action from sports authorities and political leaders is striking. UEFA, the governing body of European football, issues only minor fines to federations and clubs whose fans engage in such behavior. Meanwhile, many governments, particularly right-wing administrations, refuse to openly condemn racial conduct in sports.
The documentary takes audiences on a journey, asking direct and uncompromising questions to some of the biggest names in football (Thierry Henry, Patrice Evra, Wilfred Zaha, Mo Salah, Bukayo Saka, Mario Balotelli, and many more), complemented by previously unseen international video contributions.
