SYNOPSIS AND DESCRIPTION

The film is an adaptation of The Third Reich, a posthumously published novel by Roberto Bolaño. A seductive work, rich in imagery, characters, and plotlines, it tells the story of a man who is lost, or perhaps trapped,at a seaside resort due to his anxieties. He is a tourist obsessed with gambling and war, adolescent love, the mystery of a man’s disappearance at sea, and a strange individual he turns into a rival. As always, Bolaño’s tone is darkly ironic, with characters who do not act as expected but behave absurdly, prone to impulsive actions and clumsy decisions. The film is directed by Chilean filmmaker Alicia Scherson, a guarantee of quality. Scherson has studied, worked, and lived in Cuba, Spain, and the United States. Her films Play (2005), Turistas (2009), and The Future (2013) have been screened worldwide, receiving critical acclaim and numerous awards at major festivals such as Sundance and Rotterdam.
